During the summer between fifth and sixth grade, Ethan Hinsdale and Gavin Porter wanted to build a treehouse in a tree on elevated ground. They did not expect that their chosen location would turn out to be an ancient Native American mound.

Three years later, Ethan and his friend Rachel search for a way to return a prize-winning sheep that has gone missing. They seek the advice of Chogan, an elderly Cherokee, who warns them that the mound is a thousand years old and has powers people do not fully understand.

Set in Pinson, Tennessee, The Mound is a coming-of-age mystery for middle school readers.
